The Department of Ecology at the College of Science at the University of Basra organized a workshop on assessing water quality by applying some evidence of water quality and pollution in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in the Southern Region.

The workshop aimed to introduce the most important environmental variables used to evaluate water quality and indicate their suitability for different uses.

The workshop, in which Dr. Makiya Muhalhal Khalaf lectured, included the definition of quality and water pollution indicators and how to apply them to evaluate water quality and degrees of contamination with pollutants.

   The workshop recommended taking appropriate measures to reduce water pollution, installing surveillance cameras on both sides of the Shatt al-Arab to monitor recreational boats, holding those responsible for water pollution accountable, and imposing financial fines.
